3rd Annual Drink More Water Challenge for 3 Sigg bottles
Are you drinking enough water? Water makes up more than 70 percent of your body's tissues and plays a role in nearly every body function from regulating appetite & temperature and cushioning joints to bringing oxygen to the cells and removing waste from the body. Therefore, it's vital to pay attention to what you drink.
With what is traditionally the hottest month of the year upon us, what better time to take part in our challenge to drink more water.
For every 3 cups of water you drink (at our Sheppard location) you will receive one ticket to be entered into a draw for one of three beautiful & funky SIGG water bottles, generously donated by Aaron Mandlsohn at the Forest Hill Apothecary on Eglinton Ave. West.
The contest lasts from Aug 11-28th and is open to all practice members of Movestrong Family Chiropractic & Wellness.
Thanks also, to Waterelated (in the Pickle Barrel Plaza) for donating the pure-filtered water again for our annual challenge.
Foot Levelers Digital
Your feet support the rest of your body. If the arches in your feet collapse or are damaged, your body won’t be getting the postural support it needs, potentially leading to an imbalanced skeletal frame all the way up the body.

Why we fever with the flu?
Why do we fever with the Flu, and could Tylenol make us worse?
While the conversation around H1N1 has focussed on vaccination, this certainly doesn’t preclude you from still getting sick- only in theoretically lessening the severity of the illness if you get it. In addition to good hygiene and elbow-sneezing, how we care for ourselves when we are sick makes a big difference in whether we help or hinder our body from healing itself. Are your symptoms a sign of your body breaking down, or it doing it’s job?
When your body recognizes the influenza virus, it goes about mounting an immune response to the unwanted organism. While these symptoms aren’t comfortable or convenient to our hectic lifestyles, they are the body’s long-evolved natural defenses, and the exact expression of our immune respones. While many over the counter medications certainly help us feel better, could they actually be hindering our ability to fight off the bug? Yes.
An essential part of this is a fever, which intentionally raises your bodies temperature to a level where the virus can’t work properly. Enzymes don’t function, reproduction is limited and all energy goes towards fighting the invader. This fever is the backdrop to which your whole immune response is mounted.
If we give Tylenol or Tempra to artificially lower the fever, we are in fact short-circuiting the body’s defenses and allowing the virus to live and replicate in a more hospitable environment.
Medical journals have also shown that increased childhood use of Tylenol and antibiotics are related to increased rates of asthma and allergies- perhaps due to interfering in the immune response as described here.
We all want our kids ot feel comfortable, but need to remember that sometimes it’s OK to feel bad, and that your body knows what its doing.
While an out of control fever can be dangerous, your body is designed to handle a fever of 103/104, and as long as the child remains well hydrated and is not delusional, there is little point in racing to the hospital to sit around the waiting room all night when more rest may well be the best medicine.
Considering that treatment is generally limited to Tylenol and hydration, and electrolyte replenishment, toughing it out is often the best course of action. Should symptoms continue to progress or get worse then see a doctor.
Your body is designed to adapt and heal. Healthy tissue is simply not as susceptible to infection as stressed or unhealthy tissue. That’s basic science.
Understand your symptoms and you may find yourself less inclined to rush to a doctor for the Latin description of your symptoms and a prescription to suppress them.
